Ideas for New Mom?

I just found out that my bf's cousin is expecting her first baby- she is a wonderful person and I'm very excited for her. She is three months along and I would like to get her a "congrats!" gift of some sort.

Any suggestions of items that may be appreciated by an expecting mom? I was looking for a gift set of some sort-- maybe books, skincare lotions, etc. Any ideas or gift sets that you particularly loved. I'm looking to keep this around $60.

Thanks in advance!

I really got a lot of use out of the "What to expect . . .(when you're expecting, the first year, etc.) books. I also like Parents and Child magazines. The Boppy pillow was a godsend after the baby, but while pregnant I liked having a body pillow. Some comfy pjs would be nice because I don't know about the other girls but I spent a lot of time in mine for a couple of weeks after birth.

You are so sweet! I wish I had a friend like you when I was preggers!

I second Liz on the magazines/books, and body pillow.  This was the 1st two things I ran out and got when I was preggers.  I wanted to be informed as much as I could and I couldnt sleep w/o the body pillow.

You could also give her a GC to a fashion forward maternity store like A Pea in a Pod.

Or make a "mom to be" basket, with a book, magazines, a couple cocoa butter sticks, a journal to track down her progress, slippers, & a cute movie.

I thought the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy was hilarious.  The What to Expect When You are Expecting are pretty classic.  I almost died laughing when I read Jenny McCarthy's book, even though her and her hubby are divored now.

I like the book idea.  I've been pregnant twice and books were always my favorite gifts.  Two books I swear by for new mothers are "What to Expect the First Year" and "The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer."

What to Expect the First Year is excellent and much better than What to Expect When You're Expecting IMO.  All of my mom's friends swear by that book--on the other hand, a lot of ppl (including me) did not like "what to expect when you are expecting" (some ppl are freaked out by the amount of detail, etc.).  I've never heard anything but rave reviews for what to expect the first yr.  it is indispensible for a new mom.

The baby whisperer book is great too.  HTH some.  All of the suggestions you got our great.  You can get a book and a gift cert to "a pea in the pod" with it.

Ok, I know this is an old thread but I've had some more ideas, thought I'd post them in case anyone else wants ideas:

* Ultra sound photo frame

* baby name books

* maternity pj's
