Need help with potty training!

Okay, my 4 year-old (yes you read that right!) is still not totally potty trained.  Let me explain, he was in the process of getting potty trained last year at this time and then he broke his femur and wound up in a body cast.  He was in the cast for 8 weeks but afterwards it took awhile to get him back to normal (understandably).  He really took a bunch of steps backward after he got out of his cast and it has taken us this long to get him to even urinate in the potty.  Finally, during the past week, he is in underwear and seldom wets his pants.  The only problem is now he REFUSES to have bm's in the potty.  He screams and cries and simply will not do it.  I bought him a small potty and a potty seat but he won't sit on either.  What do I do?  I am starting him in pre-school in a few weeks and he needs to be totally potty trained!!!

my little girl would not go poo in the potty either.  she would hold it until she got a tummy ache and then poop her pants.  she was really embarrassed.  i bribed her.  that is right, i bribed my child.  she had a potty chart with all kinds of fancy stickers, and i would give her a handful of m&m's if she would go poop on the potty and if she did, my husband would make a huge deal out of it and clap and hug her and tell her she is so special and such a big girl and after about a month of that she was so excited to go poo.  so when she would start going poo regularly, we slowly started toning it down when she would go so that she now just goes by herself and then calls me to make sure she wiped good enough.

also, we made a goal for her, when she got to 10 times giong poo in the potty with out any accidents, we took her to chucky cheese.  she loved that.

Hahaha....yup, we're all about the bribery here also!  After begging and pleading I finally resorted to the "ice cream cone if you poop" approach! ;)

I don't think there's anything wrong with a little positive renforcement.  And teaching them to set goals so early is great!  Good luck!
