Any registry advice?

I've pretty much gotten my registry together but wanted to ask if you all have any tips or words or wisdom for me.  Any must haves?  Anything that's not neccessary?

Hmmmm.  I don't think I have any words of wisdom since I'm still muddling through.  I do remember thinking through my showers "who in the heck needs all this stuff? How many burp rags and receiving blankets does one baby need?"  Um, I needed them all and bought some more on my own!

Here are some things that I like that aren't necassary, they just made my life easier

Angel Baby Monitor.  An alarm sounds if there is no movement for about 20 seconds or so.  It's sensitive enough to measure breathing.  It's not a hospital grade apnea monitor but it calmed my nerves.  I'm a very light sleeper so Mr. got demoted to his own bedroom at 2 weeks old.  Bad Mom, I know.

Temporal Artery Thermometer.  It's a fancy name for forehead thermometer.  I was a freak about putting a thermometer in Mr.'s hiney-region.  I only did it once and I was sooo nervous, I just knew I was going to put it in too far or some other such thing.  A forehead swipe and I'm done!

Wipe Warmer.  It's totally frivolous but it made my middle-of-the-night diaper changes much easier.  Mr. went back to sleep much easier after we got one.

Colic Tablets.  This was a must for me, I recommend to have them at home even if you don't end up needing them.  They are only a couple of dollars for a bottle, but I would have paid a lot more.  I cut ALL dairy products out of my diet, didn't eat ANY food with ANY flavor for months, supplemented Mr. w/ a "colic formula", tried Mylicon (simethicone) and Gripe Water.  The dang tablets are the only thing that worked.

we already had a monitor, but my SIL got us a video monitor for christmas and i really love it. what makes it so great is that i can look at the monitor in the night when she cries and see if she is just stirring, or if she is actually up. i love it because our house is older and creaks, so when i would go check on her, if she wasn't up already, she sure was when the door creaked!

Oh yeah, my techy hubby already got us one for a really good deal. I think I'll really like having it cause even though the nursery is right across the hallway I don't want to have to be up and down all night checking out every whimper (I plan on putting him straight in his nursery, well that's the plan anyway). And it is super sensitive to sound.

Keep the suggestions coming!

HI FP--

so far, after 6 weeks of motherhood, we love

The Heathly care booster seat instead of a high chair once they can sit up. so easy to clean and takes up so much less room than a high chair. (super cheap too $25)

pateem changing pad. --- cute, easy to clean and we just leave it on her twin bed and never even used the changing pad deal.

Jeep Liberty stroller.....it is great, durable, she likes it, pretty inexpensive. better for around the neighborhood and parks.

playtex ventair bottles---she loves them, less gas in her tummy

humidifier--- great white noise

cheap ipod speakers for her room--- we have different song choices---play music, sleep music, etc.

Leap frog learning table--- she loves it

Leap frog fridge DJ--- great for when you are in the kitchen cooking or cleaning

emergency diaper bag left in the chair

Britax Marathon Platinum car seat-- very safe car seat

mirror for the car

lots of diapers/burp clothes

more onesies than you can believe

haven't found a bouncer yet and need a good diaper bag-- i have tried three--- a lilly pulitzer, a tumi and a cheapo $12 one from BRus. ( it is probably the best)

I am considering going to a backpack!! I know, I know! Not fashionable but I just can't get the other diaper bags to work for me.

This website has some really cute backpack diaper bags.  I may have to change to one myself pretty soon.  Mr. has turned into a little klepto!  I'll be carrying him and all of a sudden things start falling out.  Well, actually he has pulled them out of the bag and dropped them.  Lots of fun.

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

BQ, approx. when do they go from the snugride to the convertible car seat?  And btw, I've been wondering, how is your mom doing?

You can switch them to the convertible car seat facing front as soon as they're 20lbs ~around 1 year old.  However, around 10 months, they'll start getting inpatient and frustrated by facing the seat!  We gave in at 18 pounds, cuz DD would cry the whole time and she got too big for the snugride.  But you can also set up the convertible car seat facing back if you need to wait a little more.

My mom is doing really well, thanks for asking.  She's got less than 3 months left.  We're getting the crib for her this weekend.  So far she's bought all boy stuff even though she doesn't the sex -- but is hoping for a boy.  We've all convinced her to get with the times and ask for the sex of the baby on her next US.  We're all crossing our fingers for a boy.  I have one other sister and one brother, plus my daughter makes another girl, so we really need more testosterone in the family!
