Ear Piercing

Ok so my husband and I have both agreed to disagree, and that I will do what I want but...
I pose this question to you. When is it appropriate or the best age?

I did my 1st DD @ 2. She was old enough to kind of understand but too young to really be scared of doing it. We made a big deal out of the fact that it was special and she could appreciate that. She is 7 now and girls in her class are getting it done for the first time. Those parents wanted to wait until the girls could be "responsible" for to care for them mostly on their own, and decide for them self they want it done, although in 2nd grade don't you want to do what the other 2nd grade girls do? I was wanting to do Madelines at 2 also, but hubby still thinks not, but is willing to give in. I had to wait until I was 11 and I agonized with worry about getting it done, to the point I wish my mom had done it when I was a baby. So, what your opinions?

I say do it while she's young..

she won't even remember the pain..

my SIL pierced both of her daughters ears around the time they were 6 months.
I don't see the problem with it..

i had a hard time making this decision myself.  i didn't want to get them done when she was a baby.  i wanted it to be a thing we could go and do like mother and daughter.  but i don't want her to be terrified of the pain either.  i was thinking of waiting untill she asked for them to be done.  i sometimes wish i had done them when she was a baby, but when i think about taking her to get them pierced then letting her pick out new earings and then getting lunch or something afterword, i am glad i decided to wait.

I'm not sure when I will take our daughter to get it done, but I took my SIL when she was 13, kind of as a coming of age thing.  I would be worried about a toddler/young child getting things caught on them while playing and then ripping their ear.

I think it should be the child's decision, regardless of the high likelihood that she will choose to do so later on, and for whatever reason.

I remember deciding to get mine done when I was in 2nd grade, it's a great memory and it feels good to go through the little growing up rituals like that.  It felt like a big girl decision, even though it was just a silly ear piercing.

ditto. I got mine done when I was 7, after about a year of begging for it and being told I wasn't old enough. It made me feel like such a big kid.

get them done while she is young and at the same time if possible.  I went to a place that had 2 guns and it was over in an instant.  My cousin went to a Claire's type place that only did one ear at a time and after the first ear was pierced my mom and aunt had to walk around the mall with her until she calmed down and could be talked into getting the other done.
